While I LOVE your advise about how to open a speech, there are times when you can rely on the kindness of your audience and their goodwill towards you.

Since I work with entrepreneurs who are especially nervous about speaking to a group, it actually can be helpful for them to know that the audience isn't going to come after them with torches and pitchforks if they don't have a strong opening or it they mess up.

In fact, here is a good example of this that I witnessed recently.
